We would like to thank the members that responded to the survey regarding the creation of the Commission and Office of Eastern European Affairs last November. This initiative is moving forward fast. In fact, it will be debated next week Wednesday, February 12 at 3:15 pm in the North Hearing Room, second floor, Ohio Statehouse Capitol, 1 Capitol Square, Columbus, 43215. All are welcome to attend the hearing.
 

Below is a brief summary of the timeline:
1. Our Vice-President, Helena Rempala, summarized and submitted the results of our survey to Laurel A. Tombazzi, Chairperson of the Eastern European Congress of Ohio. PAC results were added to the results from other Eastern-European communities and passed onto the two Ohio Senators that expressed interest in sponsoring the Bill. The summary is included in the attachment to this message.
 

2. On January 21st, 2020 Senator Yuko and Senator Rulli introduced the Senate Bill 261 as follows:

Short Title
Creates Commission and Office of Eastern European Affairs 
Long Title
To enact sections 107.22, 107.23, and 107.24 of the Revised Code to create the Commission on Eastern European Affairs and the Office of Eastern European Affairs and to make an appropriation.

4. Further, this coming Wednesday PAC President Robert Warzycha will join Helena to testify in person on behalf of the bill (Senate Bill 265) PAC testimony will take place on Wednesday, February 12 at 3:15 pm in the North Hearing Room, second floor, Ohio Statehouse Capitol, 1 Capitol Square, Columbus, 43215. All are welcome to attend. We are told that the parking will be a challenge due to the construction in the parking garage under the Capitol, so plan accordingly.
